Gary,

I’ve read read about a quarter of the book and I already have some issues/questions about this whole thing. Now, I suppose I should ask questions after I’ve actually read the whole book, but I guess I’m gonna be an impatient dork… here they are:

1. What if I am passionate about several things? What do I do? Market several brands at the same time?

2. If you spent so much time blogging about your passion, where do you find time actually living it? You can get busy talking about it, but what about doing it?
**I find it more fulfilling doing what I love rather than just talking about it.**

3. If you have a full-time job, honey do list and family and church commitments, how do you survive on 3.5 hours of sleep a night for 12 months??

Thanks!

Okay, as I continued reading, I came across Jared Montz, who would blog until 3 a.m. and wake up again at 6 a.m. … to me that is insane. I could not do that, or if I could I would not handle it very long.

As for a passion, as I said, there are a few things I am passionate about, though only one I can draw on a lot of expertise in: graphic design. One the scale of 1-10 (1 being beginner and 10 expert), I am 8 in graphic design.

Here’s a list of all my passions in order of skill level:

1. Graphic Design – 8
2. Music – 7
3. Languages – 6 (I speak 4 languages, 3 fluently)
4. Photography – 4

I could concentrate on the passion where I acquired the most knowledge, but my heart faints from the thought of having my entire time dedicated to the one and not being able to develop the others.

I am open to any and all comments and suggestions. Never mind the topic of my post, that’s just to get your attention, I’m looking for solutions just like you and want some input. Thanks!

Hey midwest_rocks,

Why not combine some of your passions into one specific niche?

This is what I did. I’ve been a paranormal enthusiast since the age of 14, and I love to travel. I’m combining these into one passion and making Paranormal Travels TV, where I’m going to give short synopses and tips for people looking to travel to haunted, or otherwise paranormal/supernatural locations.

Would it be possible to combine your interests Photography and Graphic design seem like they would go together pretty well, and I’m pretty sure graphic design is a big part of any artist or band’s marketing (CD covers, flyers, web art, etc). You could center your blog around music industry graphic design (”How to make kick-ass CD art using Photoshop”, for example.) Then showcase some of your music related graphic design. That could get you more graphic design clients in the music industry, allowing you to enjoy your work even more.
The fact that you know 3 languages fluently means that you could translate your blog into different languages, widening your reader base.

Also, a tip I learned this year is: Leverage the experience and knowledge of others. Lets say you want to know more about photography. You could interview someone who does photography in the music industry (or in general), and have them share their knowledge through you. I’m sure you could come up with questions an ”expert” would gloss over thinking ’Well, my viewers already know this’, and get some really helpful insights to share.

I hope this was a good starting point or helpful in any way.

Patrick
