Gary… I’m so excited after reading the preview chapter and can’t wait to buy your book. I plan to buy a bunch to give too my clients as a Christmas present!

I have a situation and hopefully you or others will be able to help me find a solution.

I use to think I had A.D.D. because each month I’ll start/create multiple online/offline businesses. After reading your book, I realize I don’t have A.D.D., I just like starting and creating new businesses just like an individual who loves building model boats or cars as a hobby.

Many of the businesses I start don’t make money because once I’ve built the thing, I’ve generally went on to start something new because of an idea that was sparked after watching something on television, or while walking down the street.

There’s no doubt most of the businesses I start can make money, I just have no interest in running them, or dealing with the day-to-day operations of it. I just like the startup phase of the things and setting things in place. I just really enjoy coming up with the concept, getting it in motion and bam… once I’ve done that, I have no desire to do much more. And I’m totally happy with doing this.

But… in the interim, I need to make a living and I’ve make a significant sum of money building websites and helping other business owners build their businesses to a point where they make a great deal of money! Many of the clients I’ve dealt with have gone from only earning K per month to over K – K monthly… These numbers are consistent across the board — which is why I’m so confident that probably 90% of the businesses I do start for myself can be successful and profitable.

But… while earning a living helping everyone else with their business, I often get board, frustrated and irritated because I’d rather be ‘creating/starting’ my businesses — even though they don’t make money. But I deal with these clients because I gotta eat and support my habit.

Now… here’s my question. What can a guy like me who just simply enjoys the act of starting/creating 10+ businesses each month do to make money with my passion? Keeping in mind that….

1) I have no interest in running/overseeing the business
2) If I have to actually ship or service the customer, it likely won’t get done… because as I mentioned, it irks me and I get a headache when I have to deal with the operation side of things.

3) And quite frankly… starting/creating is the only aspect I really enjoy. I oftentimes find myself getting up at about 8 in the morning to get started and don’t stop until about 3:30 – 4:30 a.m. EVERY NIGHT — half is doing work for my clients, and the other half is working on a new idea.

I always finish setting things up… but once it’s done, I’m off to a new project.

Any advice/help is appreciated… I’d rather be doing this full time but need to make an income. I stress — I have a hard enough time keep up with my clients to the point it stresses me out dealing with deadlines that are set by me (and I often give myself a long deadlines so I can sneak in my own stuff in-between).

I hope this make sense…. I use to think it was A.D.D, but realized I just enjoy doing this with so much passion and there isn’t anything else I’d rather be doing.

Update in post above… for some reason, the numbers didn’t show up..

Many of the clients I’ve dealt with have gone from only earning five-thousand per month to over fifty – seventy-five thousand dollars monthly… These numbers are consistent across the board with all my clients — which is why I’m so confident that probably 90% of the businesses I do start for myself can be successful and profitable.

Carl,

Have you ever considered your core business to be that of a start-up coach? I know it is a very crowded space to be in, but if you have a base of customers that have taken your start-ups and have reached a steady, sustainable income level from them, you may have the leg up on the competition.

Even better is there one industry sector (i.e. used cars, squeegees, hot air poppers & etc) that really see a solid return? If so just become the ’Go To’ guy for getting off on the right foot.

Best,
Jeff

Jeff,

Start-up Coach…

Hmmm… I never thought of that. I can talk on this subject 24-7. I’m guessing I can document and record each startup I do and ’brand me’ as I go through the steps.

I think I’m going to explore that idea.

Thanks!
Carl

You can also sell your businesses once they are created. Many people are looking for ready made businesses that have the potential for profit. You can sell them the business, then as a back end sell them your coaching service to help them grow the business.

Another Idea is to find a partner or employee who is a good details person and likes the day to day stuff to run the businesses for you.

Many great entreprenuers have a great team behind them to run the boring daily things so they can do what they do best.

Besides being a ”start-up coach”, why not get on the web and just start giving your business ideas away for free. Discuss the idea, what excites you about it, and why you think it will make money to the entrepreneur that pursues it.

The reality is ideas are cheap, execution is everything. But if you execute on the idea of becoming a great source of inspiration and business savvy to other business owners, you’ll win. You can also accept submissions of other people’s ideas and give them honest feedback about why you think the idea will or won’t work.

Hi Carl, as some have said why not startup a startup business! :-) Sounds like you have the passion for it and the background and expertise.

If not gift an idea to me! :-)

Carl,

You can use that ADD problem to your advanatge… I have a touch of it myself.

We have a program that we are using that is a spin off of my main company. It has been a godsend on many fronts and sounds like it is right up your alley. Your passion wud be great. And the coaching opportuity fits well her too. I dont think it is appropriate to post it here if you are interested you can contact me sales@jmj-direct.com.

Goodluck in whatever you do. Passion is great, but you definitely needsome focus too…or someone to take care of the more micro details.

John

Carl, Congrats on your gift! I understand your dilemma completely due the fact I do have ADD and hate the day to day drama and BS after the business is up and running. I can talk others through what they should or could do and I watch them fail because they are lazy and do not execute the plan. What would you say to doing a podcast with me or others? There is massive untouched value in collaboration efforts over the internet. One other thing you may want to look at is start a ”Carl.Inc.” where you appoint or hire board members/assistants and have the corporate board run the day to day tasks and you oversee activities to be sure your ideas are firmly implemented in the ongoing businesses. You would be able to continue with cutting edge development of new business ideas. Once an idea is established as operational you could then, like me (in 6 months) hand the business off to the board to operate with your limited supervision. Execute, or as Gary and Jason say, Just get off the Bitch train. Rock on and never stop!
